Concept2

Concept2: RowErg, SkiErg and BikeErg for cardio at the highest level

Concept2 stands for cardio equipment that is very widespread in gyms, boxes and home gyms. At PRFRM you will find the BikeErg, the RowErg in standard and Tall version, and the SkiErg with a matching Floor Stand. All machines are offered with a PM5 monitor.

The three Erg machines train the body in different ways: the RowErg works legs, back and arms, the SkiErg the upper body and core, and the BikeErg the legs. Together they make for a varied endurance programme.

RowErg: rowing for the whole body

The RowErg is a classic in endurance training. The movement of leg drive, core tension and arm pull works large muscle groups. The Tall version has higher legs, which can make getting on and off easier. You will find more on the topic in our Rowing ergometers category.

SkiErg: upper body and core

The SkiErg imitates the pulling motion of cross-country skiing. You pull the handles from top to bottom, working your arms, back, core and legs. You need the Floor Stand if you do not mount the SkiErg on a wall. It is available separately in the shop. More under Ski ergometers.

BikeErg: cycling without a route

The BikeErg is an indoor bike for base endurance and intervals. It is an alternative to classic Bikes if you prefer a machine from the Concept2 family.

Rowing technique in brief

When rowing on the RowErg, the movement follows a fixed sequence. First you extend your legs, then you lean your upper body back slightly, and finally you pull your arms towards your body. You return to the starting position in reverse order. This is general technique knowledge. Rowing smoothly and in a controlled way trains more efficiently than simply applying a lot of pulling force.

Monitor and training control

With the PM5 monitor you can follow your training at a glance, for example time, distance and pace. This lets you compare sessions and spot progress. Whether you train by time, by distance or in intervals depends on your goal. You will find the exact monitor functions in the details on the product pages.

Who are the Concept2 machines suitable for?

  • Home gym: a machine for endurance that does not depend on the weather.
  • CrossFit and Functional Training: rowing, ski and bike are typical workout components.
  • Endurance athletes: a supplement to running or cycling training with lower impact.
  • Gyms and boxes: Concept2 machines are widely used there.

Training ideas

  • Base endurance: 30 to 60 minutes steady at an easy pace.
  • Intervals: for example 8 x 2 minutes hard, with 1 minute easy in between.
  • Supplement to strength training: 10 minutes on the Erg after the last exercise.
  • Variety: RowErg, SkiErg and BikeErg in rotation to challenge different muscle groups.

These are general training examples, not manufacturer specifications. You will find more cardio machines under Endurance training.
